For Ee Tuan, the law is more than just a profession - it’s her great passion.
She began her career as a litigator handling corporate, commercial and banking matters before taking on the role of group legal counsel for a major corporation.
Yet the mental rigour and dynamic complexity of private practice continued to call to her. That was how she came to join David Lim & Partners in 1996. Since then, her more than three decades of experience has become an invaluable asset to both the firm and our clients.
Conciliatory, not confrontational
In a field often perceived to be combative, Ee Tuan’s approach to practice is defined by grace.
While her priority is always to protect her clients’ interests, she believes this can be achieved without being adversarial. Instead, she relies on cordial, calm, yet firm persuasion - always aiming for outcomes that are reasonable and equitable for all.
Fostering a better way to practice
For Ee Tuan, being a great lawyer is not defined solely by brilliant legal acumen. Guided by her Christian faith, she seeks always to approach every case with fairness and respect - never compromising integrity for an advantage. Within the firm, she takes every opportunity to nurture these values in younger lawyers, guiding them to uphold both professional excellence and ethical conduct in all they do.
Foundation of mastery
The shelves in Ee Tuan’s office still hold the well-worn law books from her university days - a reminder that a lawyer’s competence is built on a deep and ever-evolving understanding of the law. True lawyers, she believes, never stop growing: refining their instincts through continual learning and thoughtful reflection.
A lifelong devotion
The law is a discipline that Ee Tuan lives and breathes daily. Each brief is an opportunity to honour the ideals that first drew her to the profession: intellectual honesty, fairness, and moral courage. In her unwavering dedication shines a reminder that when the law is applied with both mastery and integrity, it becomes more than a career; it becomes a calling.
